Barbara Morris was born September 9, 1949, and was raised on a farm in Harrisville, Mississippi. Barbara has 11 siblings (6 brothers and 5 sisters). Her parents raised all her siblings in church, where she became very active. Barbara was a Sunday School teacher, choir director and the choir president. She also worked in the Home Mission Society, and Sunday School Baptist Training Union. Barbara was also a member of two quartet singing groups, the Singing Inspirations and the True Believers. Both singing groups kept her busy spreading the gospel traveling all around Mississippi and surrounding states.
Barbara graduated from high school at New Hymn Attendance Center and attended college at Prentis Normal Industrial Institute and took courses at Hinds Community College. Barbara later married and had two beautiful children, Christopher Black and Kenyata Black. When Barbara was not raising her children or going to church, she was working! Barbara worked at Magnetk (a manufacturing company) for 23 years and was also the supervisor of the Marriage Casino Resort, where she held that position for eight years. Barbara enjoys helping others and has participated in numerous community service events around the city. She loves to travel. Some of her favorite places were Tokyo, Japan, Yokosuka, Japan, and the Bahamas. She loves to take cruises from time to time.
Barbara moved to Ventura last year to be closer to her oldest son Christopher Black and his wife Rosemary Black, but also to be closer to her grandchildren. Barbara has two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren that live in Bakersfield, CA, and she loves to spend time with her family as much as possible! In her spare time, she loves to dance, read the bible, and help others. You can always catch Barbara with a smile on her face!
