Cathy Barringer was born in Burbank, a second-generation Californian, and raised in Van Nuys as a Valley Girl. After she graduated from Van Nuys High, she enrolled at Stanford University. She met James Carlisle Barringer (Carl) when he returned to Stanford after serving in the Infantry in Europe during WWII. They were married when she graduated and moved to Santa Paula. The had one daughter and three sons and became involved in the activities of their big, busy family. They also were involved in community activities. Carl was twice Mayor.
Cathy helped found Santa Clara Valley Hospice, served as a board member (and president) of Interface Children Family Services for more than 20 years. Both were honored as Citizen of the Year. Her most challenging year was spent as foreman for the Grand Jury of Ventura County. She was a substitute teacher at Santa Paula Union High School for almost 17 years.
Cathy has always liked to garden and arrange flowers. Family and friends established the Rose Garden at the Santa Paula Hospital in memory of her mother. She enjoys tennis and bridge. Her big family, 7 grandchildren, their spouses, 11 great-grandchildren and her friends are precious to her!
